CE Special Award” of Toyota Motor Corporation for Our Luggage Space System Adopted for the New LEXUS NX April 13,2022
HAYASHI TELEMPU CORPORATION (Head office: Nagoya City,
Naka-ku, President: Takao Hayashi), a comprehensive
manufacturer of automotive interior parts, received the
“CE* Special Award” of Toyota Motor Corporation in
connection with the project awards for the new LEXUS
NX.
The new NX is based on the development concept of “Vital
x Tech Gear,” a sports gear formula that fuses vitality
and advanced technology. The new NX is the first model
to symbolize the dawn of the next-generation LEXUS, with
completely renewed driving-, design-, and advanced
technology features.
The award-winning luggage space system designed by our
company with characteristics such as the world’s first
two-fold lightweight tonneau cover and luggage space
board for single-handed opening and closing operation
even when loaded with luggage found high acclaim for its
user-friendly planning and development.

Despite some components competing for space, such as the charging inlet for PHV models and the sub-woofers under the luggage space board, the large storage capacity achieved exceeds previous models.
The luggage space board can be folded twice and maintains an upright position when hooked into the storage under the luggage space. Handles in two places enable single-handed opening and closing without exaggerate stretching.

In order to realize the surprising spaciousness despite the compact design pursued for the Lexus SUV luggage space, the tonneau cover is linked to the opening and closing of the back door, ensuring a clear view of the cargo area the moment the back door is opened. Smooth unloading is possible by enlarging the opening space. The tonneau cover’s light-weight two-fold structure is a global first. For loading even larger luggage, the tonneau cover can be folded up and stored under the luggage space.

For the effective use of the storage space under the luggage space floor, the luggage space board has a two-fold structure so that it can be opened even with a large piece of luggage such as a golf bag on top. In addition, two handles ensure that the luggage space board can be readily opened and closed with one hand for ease of use also when carrying luggage.
